As of this week, GameStop is now taking pre-orders for the Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle . The limited edition bundle will be made available September 20th of this year and at the newly marked down price of $299. According to GameStop’s site, the box will come fully loaded with the following:

  • Black Wii U Console (32GB)
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Wii U GamePad
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD full game digital download
  • The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia digital download

This is set a couple of weeks before the physical release of the game (October 4th), same date as the public digital release of the game.  This (and the price drop) was just one of a few announcements that Nintendo released this past week, amongst another one being the reveal of the new Nintendo 2DS.

The 2DS, priced at $129, does away with the 3D functionality of the 3DS and features somewhat smaller screens. Several other minor changes exist, such as the wireless switch had been replaced with a menu option and there are no longer any hinges that allow for the console to fold shut. Apart from the changes mentioned, everything else about the console remains the same. The menus are still the same, access to the eShop will remain, and the system will support full playability of any and every 3DS game available.

What might seem like a step backward, the 2DS makes perfect sense, especially as an appeal to a much younger audience. Removal of the “eye-damaging” 3D function and the significantly cheaper price, will undoubtedly tempt the wallets of numerous parents and grandparents alike. And cleverly enough, the console is set to launch the same day as the new 3DS Pokémon titles, Pokémon X & Y, on October 12th. Nintendo, you sly devil, you.

Combine these two snazzy new consoles with Nintendo’s first-party lineup for the fall (including titles such as Super Mario 3D World, Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Wind Waker HD, and X &Y)  and you have a recipe for potentially an incredibly successful season that’ll put Nintendo back on the map.

So, out of everything that Nintendo has planned for this upcoming Autumn, what are you most excited for? Be sure to leave us your thoughts in the comments below!

I mean, I’m a little peeved that they’re offering a really cool custom Wii U at hundred dollars cheaper (if you include the game) than for what I purchased it, but whatever, I’ll just draw on my Gamepad and pretend it’s custom.
