Music Monday: POWER GLOVE — Streets of 2043

Best known for their work on 2013’s Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and 2011’s Hobo with a Shotgun soundtracks, the Melbourne, Australia duo Power Glove have been on the scene since 2010, with their first EP releasing 2 years later. Although the group has only officially released one mini-album, they have been featured in various collections and released several singles slowly throughout their 4 year career.

While their true identities remain unknown to the internet, their only existing bio states, “Armed with only two POWERGLOVES, we are two lawyers sent back from the streets of future, post apocalyptic Los Angeles 2043. With a touch of romance and a ton of trouble, we’re gonna get there…any way we can.”

Their first single ‘Streets of 2043’, released back in 2010, remains a staple of their core sound: Spooky and shadowy. Dark winding synth waves cycle while hard, electric guitar riffs and stiff electronic drums pound eerily, giving the song a truly creepy vibe. ’80s new wave never sounded so ghoulish as images of 1984’s Terminator cruising on his motorcycle in search of Sarah Connor and Blade Runner’s Deckard chasing a replicant through a shopping mall are called to mind. The ominous vibrato hums back and forth through the speakers, making ‘Streets of 2043’ one of their richest pieces released yet.

Power Glove‘s mini-album featuring ‘Streets of 2043’ aptly titled ‘EP 1‘ and the Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon soundtrack are available for download.
