STAR WARS Episode VII Officially Titled ‘The Force Awakens’

On Thursday, November 6, the official Star Wars Twitter account announced the official title of Episode VII: The Force Within.  As CNN reported, the tweet simply said that the film had completed principal photography. Now entering post-production, the film will be released on December 18, 2015.

CNN also reported that Twitter quickly began deriding the new title, with the hashtag “Rejected Star Wars title” trending in a matter of hours. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) with a screenplay by The Empire Strikes Back screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan. The film is the first of a new trilogy, with the still-untitled Episode VIII to be directed by Rian Johnson (Looper).
