BATTLETOADS Trademark Filed by Microsoft, Resurgence of Battletoads Prank Calls in Foreseeable Future

According to a recent report from NeoGAF, Microsoft has filed for a new trademark application for the infamously difficult Rare classic Battletoads, Rare, which in this case, having been acquired by Microsoft back in 2002.

The trademark, which covered “game software” and “online video games”, was filed with the United States Patent & Trademark Office on November 5, 2014, and speculation persists about whether or not this series might be making a comeback on the current gen platforms. However, in an interview with GameStop, a Microsoft representative had this to say: “Microsoft often acquires various trademarks as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment.”

For now, many of these statements are nothing more than mere speculation and aside from this aforementioned snippet from a Microsoft spokesperson and proof of the trademark floating around the Internet there really isn’t a lot of proof otherwise. Perhaps it is just Microsoft tightening the reigns on their Intellectual Property or maybe there is a new Battletoads looming in the horizon.
