Creator of RWBY, Monty Oum Passes Away at Age 33

February 3, 2015 Rooster Teeth‘s beloved Director of Animation and RWBY creator, Monty Oum, passed away on February 1, 2015, following a 10-day coma. His death was the result of a severe reaction to a medical procedure, Rooster Teeth informed the world, inside a heartfelt message to their fans.

Monty Oum was a dedicated and skilled creator. Most recently he’s been known for his hand in RvB, but his claim to fame rests on his successful animated web series, RWBY.

Having worked for Rooster Teeth an admirable 5 years, Oum had left behind many interesting and inspirational words for their journal segment. However, it is his last journal entry where we can see the passion driving him up until his unfortunate passing, “[W]ork on something you love and you’ll never want to stop doing it”. A philosophy which beyond doubt shaped his priceless contributions to geek culture.

A GoFundMe was established Friday, and donations were offered to help aid Oum’s family in their time of need with steep medical expenses. The goal was met and surpassed in no less than three hours time. Additional funds raised will go towards Oum’s funeral costs and remaining medical expenses.

Oum’s wife Sheena made only one request of his fans; to please stop using his likeness on social media. Later clarified to say she would appreciate if no one posed as the late talent, but memories and photos are welcome.
